Social Development

December 2007. National Strategy for Social and Economic Development (NSSED). ISB was substantially engaged on the process of NSSED since 2001 playing a key role on the preparation of the strategy, preparing specific papers, organization of national debates, consultation with stakeholders, regional debates and providing substantial input though analyses and consulting services. These efforts were financed mainly by the following donors: DFID, WB, WBI. 

This year (2007) the strategy had been changed into the National Strategy for Development and Integration (NSDI) and is under the responsibility of the Department of Strategy and Donor Coordination, Council of Ministers. Through the project ‘Public Information and Participation on NSDI Consultation’, financed by DFID, ISB will assist the consultation process by designing and implementing media and public debates campaign. The main objective of this project is to maximize public information, awareness and participation in the preparation of NSDI through a multi channel communication instruments and appropriate activities, aiming to enable a good understanding and build the largest possible consensus for the strategy.

 August 2007- May 2008. Social Protection and Social Inclusion in Albania, financed by EU. ISB is working on a research study for social inclusion and protection issues in Albania. The research will follow the predefined outline in accordance to similar reports of other countries and will illustrate the analysis based on the set of Laeken Indicators and other statistical information on Albanian economic and social background. The project will engage the use of complementary qualitative and quantitative methods for exploring the numerous and complexive sides of the social protection system and inclusion. An imperative part of the research methodology will be the involvement of different stakeholders.

November 2007 – February 2008.  Human Development Report 2008, UNDP. The following National Human Development Report for Albania 2008 will focus on capacity development, primarily in the public sector, needed to maintain progress towards, and meet these reform goals. ISB will conduct a qualitative capacity assessment research to appraise the existing capacities of public administration (organizational and individual) to perform the main functions and deliver results.

2003. Human Security. The project was financed by UNDP and implemented by Institute for Contemporary Studies (ISB) and Center for Rural Studies (QSR). This project provided data and analyzes on Human Security trends and developments at the national and local level in order to alert for possible tensions, conflicts or crises. 2000 households were selected in all 36 districts of the country, with an over-representation of the remote areas of the country. Interviewing process was carried out independently by the Institute of Polls and Opinions (ISO).

2001-2002.Rapid Assessment Survey on the Street Working Children in Albania. The study was carried out simultaneously in several countries, under the request of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Geneva. For the Albanian case which was carried out by ISB, we held 300 interviews with street children; 50 interviews with parents; organized focus groups with teachers, social workers, central and local government officials. Analysis of primary and secondary data helped define the profile of street working children, and their relations with their families, employers, and society. The factors and roots of this social problem provided some key policy recommendations.
